Office Staff Volunteer

The medical volunteer of Austin Smiles accompanies the mission team in a variety of ways. All medical volunteers must be licensed or certified in their designated field of health. Our medical team consists of three main areas: Surgical, Recovery and Triage/Intake. There are some additional registered nurses and LVNs and clinical assistants that are accepted onto the mission team for support roles in Post Operative Care, Sterile Processing, Social Work and Speech Language Pathology. As well, we always welcome pediatricians to join us as we predominantly work with children.

The non-medical volunteer of Austin Smiles accompanies the medical mission team in a support way through: translating, family support, patient intake, family counseling, housekeeping staff, computer and IT needs, database maintenance and many other non-medical tasks. They go for the full one-week mission and complement the rest of the medical team.

No volunteer (medical or other) is paid for their services and each volunteer is required to raise a sponsorship fee of $750.00.

This position is perfect for those who can not be gone for one-week out of the country or do not feel comfortable in a foreign country. Opportunities include: office work; filing, organizing, database entry, picking up donated medical supplies, packing for mission trips, purchasing supplies and answering the telephone. We host events for our children of The Central Texas Cleft Team and we are always in need of volunteers who enjoy working with children. The office volunteer shifts are usually Monday through Friday during regular business hours. However, all children’s activities are on weekends and we do host work days on the weekends.
