Each year, Austin Smiles performs 3 to 4 one-week medical missions to various locations in Latin America. The medical mission team generally consists of the medical team and 10 to 15 volunteers who provide translation, administrative and technical support. The medical team consists of approximately 30 licensed medical professionals including: board certified plastic surgeons, anesthesiologists, speech pathologists, otolaryngologists, nurses and operating, recovery and post recovery nurses and technicians. No volunteer (medical or other) is paid for their services and each volunteer is required to raise a sponsorship fee to cover a portion of their expenses.

In one week, Austin Smiles will on average change the lives of 70 children. To date, Austin Smiles has completed over 3,500 reconstructive surgeries on these medical missions.
