Austin Smiles is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization which provides reconstructive plastic surgery, primarily cleft lip and palate repairs, to the children of Austin and the 10 county area surrounding Austin and in various locations in Latin America.

The Story of Xiomora

In October 1996, Austin Smiles was in San Salvador performing a medical mission.

"One of our physicians, Dr. Rick Parker spotted a toddler who needed extensive lip surgery and asked if there was any way Austin Smiles could bring the child to Texas to receive the extensive lip surgery. The surgery was too extensive to be done in El Salvador and we did not have enough time to follow up and ensure no infection would occur.

In March 1997, Xiomora Flores, a 30-month old toddler came to Austin with her mother and received the much needed first total upper lip reconstructive surgery..."
